delegation and numbers

08.21.2007

First- I hate numbers.  Hate, hate hate.

Second- I can’t emphasize enough the importance of having a good accountant either doing your books or overseeing them being done.

Last week I shopped around for a good accountant.  I met with a few in the area and narrowed my choice down to one.  She will oversee the data entry- money in, money out.  She will also double check to make sure all of the data is entered correctly.  She will be responsible for getting monthly financial statements to me.   She will also be doing all of our tax work.

My three reasons for passing this duty off to a competent professional:

  • It will allow for more time to take care of important things like, personal projects, and hanging out with the wife and kids etc.
  • The job will be done right.  My books will always be straight.  An audit?  Bring’em on.
  • I hate numbers, truly.

Business is all about teamwork and delegation.  You shouldn’t be doing everything yourself.  How do you think CEO’s of major corporations sleep?  Easy, they delegate as much as possible into the hands of competent professionals.

Whether you’re a one-man show or employ hundreds of people; start thinking like a CEO.  You’ll be glad you did.

So tell me this:
What could you delegate right now to free up some of your valuable time?

Can’t you get the wife to do it?
