building doors

01.29.2008

Found this great quote that goes along nicely with a recent post of mine.

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.”  Milton Berle

Why stop with building doors?    If I were you I’d build doors to houses, hotels, resorts, towns, cities and nations.  Or, if you’re happy with a door start there.

Here’s the thing:
Most opportunities don’t fall into your lap.  Most opportunities come about because you’ve done something to deserve it.

  1. My father in law always says that success lies at the intersection of preparation and luck. If either are absent success can be difficult to achieve. I think your message is very similar.

If you are not prepared to take advantage of an opportunity, and if you are not actively looking for opportunities the chances of you being successful are limited.

I also like this quote by Thoreau,

“Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.”

  3. And I like to tell people that success requires two four-letter words:

    H-A-R-D W-O-R-K
